Eating one and a half hours before a run is recommended along with a healthy snack for after the run. In order to burn fat, sprinting while you run is a better approach. 60 minutes of this is better than 45 minutes of a slow paced jog. If you are running for less than an hour, isotonic drinks are not necessary as the carbohydrate reserve in the muscles and liver will keep one going for an hour. Water is appropriate for rehydrating if working out for less than an hour.
